For people unfamiliar with pillow construction, it is often counter intuitive that pillow covers need to be sized smaller than their inserts. For the smallest sizes, it is ½ inch smaller, and for the largest sizes it is 2 to 3 inches smaller. How much smaller a cover has to be depends also on the fabric thickness. For example, heavy upholstery fabrics put more weight on the insert, so the cover needs to be made even smaller for the insert to properly fill out the heavy cover. I take all the headache and guesswork out of it by sizing the cover correctly for you. All you need to do is tell me your insert size (measure with the cover off please!) and I will take it from there.

This means: 
If you have a 20x20 insert, you should buy “Fits 20x20 insert”
If you have a 22x22 insert, you should buy “Fits 22x22 insert”
And so on and so forth.

I assume that you are using an insert in good condition. If the filling of your insert is old, lumpy or do not bounce back when compressed, these are signs that you should replace your old inserts for best finished results. I also assume that your insert has compressible filling (e.g. not upholstery foam or memory foam).

WARNING: If you intend to reuse a pillow with a non-removable cover as your insert, I strongly recommend against doing so, especially if your pillow has any fringe or braid trim, ruching or decorative elements. When you put a second cover over the first, the final result is almost always lumpy and the corners will not turn out sharply. Imagine you are wearing a winter coat, and you are trying to put a second coat on over the first coat. The second coat cannot be smaller than the first. Therefore, in this situation, please alert me immediately because the posted sizing does not apply to you.

Insert manufacturers sell inserts by their height x width *before* putting in filling. Therefore, the most accurate way to measure them is along a seam line from corner to corner, using a flexible tape measure, while pulling the seam straight. Never measure an insert across the belly because you could get a measurement 1 to 2 inches too small, especially if you are using a rigid ruler. Additionally, make sure you are measuring your bare insert without any cover. A cover squeezes the insert into a smaller shape, resulting in too small a measurement. We assume that you are using an average knife-edge insert (see photo below) with normal compressible fill such as feather/down, synthetic down or polyfil (not memory foam, upholstery foam, latex, overfilled, or in a non-removable pillow cover). Do not use an insert with a gusset. Please notify us if your insert does not meet these conditions.

This "trick of the trade" results in a professional, custom pillow fit that will make whatever insert you use look its very best. When laid flat, our pillow covers appears to have gently curved sides that will straighten out when filled with an insert. This feature is often requested by interior designers because it corrects a pillow insert's tendency to be understuffed at the corners by making the corners more form-fitting. Imagine putting a rounded object in a square bag. It will not fit as well as a bag that is contoured. 

It may be a bit surprising, but for the finished pillow to look square, its cover cannot be made perfectly square. You can often identify pillows missing this professional feature by their droopy dog-eared or long pointy corners. The more rounded your insert, the greater the distortion. Take a look at the photos below and check out the difference!

Making pillow covers this way takes more time and care, but the result is absolutely worth it! Because of the contoured shaping, all measurements are taken across the middle of the cover and not from corner to corner.

Please review the pillow sizing guide which will help you choose an appropriate size for your furniture. Keep in mind that the pillow covers dimensions are of the flat 2-dimensional cover. Once you fill it with an insert, some of the height and width of the flat cover will wrap around the curve of the 3-dimensional insert. This means that visually speaking, the 3-dimensional stuffed pillow will not translate inch for inch from the size of the 2-dimensional cover, but will look smaller. Therefore, err on the side of ordering a larger size if you are on the fence between two sizes.

Our recommendations:

(1) Use a good quality feather insert. Look for a full volume of filling in a tightly woven shell that prevents feathers from escaping.

(2) Avoid inserts with synthetic polyfil. Most of them get lumpy with prolonged use and cannot be fluffed back up. They tend to look stiff and will not hold a karate chop.

(3) If you are using an insert filled with down, you will need to use a larger size than recommended, because down compresses far more than other types of filling. The higher the percentage of down, the larger the insert you will need to fill out the cover. For example, for a 22x22 cover size, we would normally recommend that you fill it with a 24x24 feather insert. However, when using a down insert, you will want to use at least a 25x25 insert to fill out the 22x22 cover to achieve a fully stuffed look.

(4) If your insert is not filling out the cover as fully as you would like, use a larger insert to get the fullness you want. Conversely, if your insert feels too tight on the cover, try a smaller insert. The recommended insert size for each cover size on our Size Chart is intended to be a general guide that you can adjust to your taste. The amount of filling in different brands of insert can vary even if the same size is purchased. The finished cover size is what determines the maximum size the finished pillow can be. Your choice of insert will determine how soft, hard or full the stuffed pillow will be.

(4) Avoid re-using an old pillow with an non-removable cover as the insert. See this FAQ.

No, is it not OK, for several reasons.

You can think of the pillow insert as your body, and the cover as your jacket. If you already have a jacket on, would you put a second jacket on top without taking the first one off first? You would not.

Why? Because the first jacket would make the second one really hard to put on and wearing two jackets would not give you a flattering look. You will look bloated and lumpy, and not trim, tailored and amazing. The same reasoning applies to pillows.

When you try to recover an old pillow with a new cover, especially if that pillow is made from a heavy fabric or has fringe, trim or decorative elements, the result is almost always bumpy because your old pillow cannot conform to the shape of the new cover like a real insert would. Moreover, your pillow's old cover is already compressing the inner fill, and therefore it cannot compress to the same degree as an average pillow insert would. Therefore, if you order off our standard size chart without taking into consideration of this fact, you will receive a cover that is too small.

Good pillow inserts can be purchased new from many retailers for between $10 to $25 (depending on size and fill type). A good quality feather insert will always give you the best results. Most of our product photos are taken on Pottery Barn's feather inserts. (Stay away from Pottery Barn's synthetic fill inserts though, as they are way overfilled and extremely stiff).

If you are reusing an old insert, take the time to remove your old cover, lay it flat and measure it. Compare the dimensions of your old cover to the posted finished dimensions in our size chart and order the closest size. If you need a custom size, read this FAQ and then fill out the custom order request form. If your insert is old, smelly, compressed and/or does not fluff back up, it is time to throw it in the trash and buy a new one.

For the average pillow insert on the market, it is necessary to make the cover a little smaller so that the finished pillow will look trim and tailored, instead of limp and saggy. How much smaller depends on how big the insert is. The bigger the insert, the smaller the cover has to be made. For example if you have a 26x26 insert, the cover should be made 24x24 for a good fit. However, if your insert is small, e.g. a 16x16 insert, the cover is made only 1/2" smaller at 15.5x15.5 inches.

Let's see how this works in practice.

Here is a pillow cover finished at 19" across the middle:

Let's put a 20x20 Pottery Barn feather insert inside this 19" cover:

This is what the finished, zipped up pillow looks like. The sides are trim and the shape is well defined with no looseness. This is why it is best practice to make the pillow cover smaller than the insert size.

What happens if we put the same 20x20 insert inside a slightly bigger cover (finished at 20x20, same size as the insert)?

You can see below that the finished zipped up pillow has less definition along the edges. There is extra looseness at the corners, even though the cover was made with tapered corners. The cover still fits, but it doesn't fit as well as the red example above.

What happens if we put the same 20x20 insert into an even bigger cover (+1 inch)? Let's try a 21x21 cover this time:

As you can see below, even a 1 inch extra on the cover versus the insert creates a significantly looser look. There is a huge amount of movement of the cover fabric in the fit due to the insert not being able to fill out the cover.

How about the 20x20 insert inside an even bigger cover (+2 inches)? Let's try a 22x22 cover this time:

Using the same 20x20 insert:

The result is even more looseness, causing the stuffed pillow to appear extremely misshapen. Not only that, all that extra fabric will bunch up, wrinkle and crease during use. Too much looseness also disrupts and distorts the print. And without the cover holding the insert in a tighter formation, it will not provide good cushioning support.

If you instead use a 24x24 insert inside the 22x22 cover (-2 inches), this is what you get instead:

And now, see the two side by side. Yes, a mere difference of +/- 2 inches has a huge impact on the finished results! 

On the left side (the "Before"), you see a 20x20 insert inside a 22x22 cover (+2 inches).

On the right side (the "After"), you see a 24x24 insert inside a 22x22 cover (-2 inches).

Same cover, just different size inserts.

But, wow, but what a difference! See how on the right, with the insert properly stretching the cover, the geometric design appears straight without distortion. Versus on the left, with the cover way bigger than the insert, the entire design is bunched up and unattractive.

Key points to take away from this photo demonstration:

• It is necessary to make the pillow cover smaller than the insert size. The key benefits to having the insert stretch out the cover to its full capacity are: no pattern distortion, no wrinkling of fabric and better/firmer support.
• How much smaller depends on the insert size, and on the weight/stiffness of the fabric
• Our standard size chart is developed from actual testing on commercially made feather inserts. The sizing is designed for your insert to fill out the cover completely for a full, plump appearance after stuffing in the manner shown in our shop’s product photos and like pillows in interior design and architecture magazines. The finished pillow should have a nice, defined outline yet be comfortable to sit upon. 
• The insert size we recommend is a starting point that you should adjust to your taste. For example, if your insert is not filling out the cover as much as you would like, use a larger insert. Conversely, if your insert feels too tight in the cover, use a smaller insert. 

All that said, ultimately it is a matter of personal preference how you like your pillows to look and feel. Contact us for a custom size if you have measurements that are not on our standard size list.

When you put a 3 dimensional object (namely your insert) inside a 2-dimensional flat cover, some of the width/height went towards wrapping around the depth of your insert. For example, if your insert is 20x20 along the side seams, the cover is made 19x19 across the middle, and after stuffing your pillow might appear roughly 16x16x3 (assuming you have a 3 inch thick insert).  The plumper your insert, the smaller the finished pillow will appear versus the flat seam to seam measurement.

The flat pillow cover dimensions will never translate inch for inch into the height or width of the finished pillow.  Think of this another way: As your eyes look at a pillow straight on, the sides and the top and bottom curve away from you, so you will perceive the pillow to be smaller because your eyes can't see around the curves.  

Standard sizing by insert manufacturers is a major source of this confusion. Pillow inserts are typically made in the knife edge style, meaning there is no gusset to accommodate for the thickness of the stuffing. The shell of the insert is cut as a square or rectangle and the insert is sold by the length of the seams before filling is added. However, once filling is added turning the flat shell into a 3 dimensional pillow insert, the flat dimensions is no longer an accurate guide for how tall or wide the 3 dimensional pillow will look to you. 

This is why I urge many of you to buy bigger inserts than you think your furniture needs. I also advise you to purchase your inserts first, before buying the covers, and arrange the inserts on your furniture be sure they are roughly the right size relative to the scale of your furniture. Once you put my covers on your inserts, they will look more trim and tailored, but if you follow my suggestion above, you should not make the mistake of purchasing a size that is drastically too small for your furniture.

Take a look at these photos where I have photographed various insert sizes on an average 2 seat and 3 seat sofas, so you can see approximately how each size looks in reality:

12x18, 12x24, 14x20, 16x26, 16x16, 18x18, 20x20, 22x22, 24x24 to 26x26 (Euro sham)

For example, if your sofa has a seat to back height of 20 inches high, do not make the mistake of using a 20x20 insert!  As you can see from the photos, if you want the finished pillow to provide full back support, you will actually need a 24x24 insert and a cover made to fit it.

For pillow covers made with extra heavy or stiff upholstery fabrics, it is necessary to make the pillow covers an extra 1/2 to 1 inch smaller than for light to medium weight fabrics, in order for the finished pillow to look full. This is because these heavy fabrics put more pressure on the insert, and so to get the same fullness, the cover needs to be made even smaller. 

Think of it this way: if you are wearing a light drapey cotton cardigan, will you look the same as when you wear a heavy, thick stiff velvet coat? To really show your curves in the velvet coat, you will need to wear a smaller, tighter size to get the heavier fabric to conform to your body. The same reasoning applies to pillows.

The good thing here is that there is no guesswork on your part! Because I make pillow covers to fit your insert size, and I test each cover on real inserts before shipping, I do all the necessary size adjustments to get you the best, most perfect pillow fit possible, no matter which fabric you choose. 

Here's a photo demonstration of this concept:

Let's start with a 16x26 insert, with 35 ounces of feather fill.

Normally, as per the shop's size chart, for a 16"x26" insert, the cover will be made 15.5" x 25" across the middle. However, for heavy upholstery velvets, like this pillow cover below, it is made an extra 1/2" smaller, at 15" x 24.5" for the best result.

Please be aware that all measurements are taken across the middle of the cover where it is widest. Because each pillow cover has a contoured shape (corners are tapered and the sides are slightly curved), the measurement across the edge is always about an inch or two smaller. For this reason, please do not measure along the edge. (See also this FAQ explaining why the covers are made with a contoured shape)

By making each cover this way, the finished, stuffed pillow is full, with no saggy corners or edges, just like you would see in interior design magazines. See the finished result in the two photos below:

Now, compare versus the above example, here is the same fabric made into a 16x26 cover. This one is 1 inch taller and 1.5 inch wider than the cover pictured above.

Now, let's put in the same insert to see how it looks.

Notice how this finished pillow has a baggy look. Both the top and the sides have loose fabric, even though the insert is 16x26 and the cover is 16x26. This looseness is especially apparent at the corners and sides.

All of our pillow covers are measured and tested on actual inserts before shipment, so it is highly unlikely that the wrong size was made for you.

The standard size chart is developed from actual testing on both feather and polyfil inserts commercially made and available on the market. The sizing is designed for your insert to fill out the cover completely for a full, plump appearance after stuffing in the manner shown in our shop’s product photos and like pillows in interior design and architecture magazines. The finished pillow should have a nice, defined outline yet be comfortable to sit upon. 

If you prefer a looser fit and have a specific finished dimension in mind, please request a custom size and we would be happy to sew it for you. Please refer to this FAQ which has four photo examples of how a cover that is -1, 0, +1 and +2 inches looks on an insert. This will help you see how a progressively bigger cover size changes the appearance of the finished pillow.

In this example, the pillow cover that "Fits 24x24 insert" will measure 22x22 across the middle with the cover flipped wrong side out. Note: Please see this FAQ to understand why the cover must be smaller than the insert size.

Your measurement is off if:

• You measured the empty cover with no insert -- Why? Measuring the empty cover from the outside is like measuring a balloon with no air in it. You need to "inflate" it by stuffing it first, which will push the seams all the way out to achieve the full measurement. Otherwise, some fabric will curl into the seams and into the zipper, giving you an incorrect reading. At the time of sewing, we check all measurements with a tape measure before the cover is flipped right side out. This is the most accurate way to measure. See photo below: 
• You measured from corner to corner - Why? The pillow covers have contoured shaping with the corners tapering inwards. Measuring from corner to corner will give you a smaller measurement than across the middle. The corner-to-corner measurement does not correctly reflect the full capacity of the cover. Click HERE to read why we make the corners this way. 

Please measure your cover as shown in the photo above. If your measurement materially varies from the size chart (more than 1/4 inch), email us a photo with a ruler to show the discrepancy, and we will be glad to remake the item for you. Keep in mind that all our pillow covers are hand-crafted. As such, insignificant variances up to 1/4 inch may occur, which will not affect the fit of your pillows.

Yes of course! In fact for non-standard insert sizes, copying the dimensions of your old cover is often the best way to ensure the new cover made will fit well. Here's how to measure properly: Turn your old cover inside out and measure where the inner stitching lines are. If the edges are finished with an overlock stitch (looks like a zig zag stitch), look for the innermost line of straight stitch (looks like ------------) and measure from there.

Additional tip: Measure across the middle and also at the sides to verify it's a square or rectangle with 90 degree corners. If the corners are tapered, the middle measurement will be bigger than the length of the side seams.

Due to the high demand for samples, each customer is limited to a maximum of 10 samples per order to give everyone a fair chance of receiving samples in a timely manner.

International shipments under $100 are usually sent by USPS First Class Package (airmail) with tracking #, unless buyer otherwise requests a different shipping method. Orders over $100 are sent UPS or DHL.

International buyers are responsible for any duties, taxes, VAT and other administrative brokerage or custom clearance fees that may be charged by your country and by the delivery carrier (post office, UPS, DHL, etc). These charges are not within Aloriam's control and are the buyer's responsibility. Please be aware that you may have to pay additional amounts to your government or carrier to receive your package. If you do not pick up your package, refuse delivery or fail to pay the duties, taxes, custom clearance or brokerage fees levied by your country and/or the carrier, your order will eventually be returned to us. At that point, we will give you the option to reship the package (additional postage to be invoiced) or cancel the order and receive a refund (with a deduction for the 2-way shipping cost and restocking fee). Buyer is responsible for 2-way round trip shipping incurred if delivery is refused and/or unpaid duties/fees/taxes cause the package to be returned to sender.

Turnaround times fluctuate depending on order volume. Please see the notice in the green box here for the current turnaround times. Your order confirmation email also provides a production time estimate. 

Please let us know your deadline and we will do our best to make it happen. Keep in mind that our pillow covers are custom made-to-order for you. Some fabrics require special order from supplier. If there isn't enough fabric on hand to sew your order right away, rush production will not be possible. 

We reserve the right to bill a 15% rush fee on orders requiring weekend work or a 24-hour turnaround time. For example, if you place an order on Friday and require it shipped by Monday, or if you place an order on Wednesday and require it shipped Thursday. The rush fee is non-refundable.

To avoid disappointment, please first check with us as to the feasibility of a rush order before making your purchase. 

Express next day shipping methods are not covered by our standard shipping rates and will be billed separately.

Our shop accepts all major credit and debit cards issued by Visa, Mastercard, American Express, Discover, Diner's Club, as well as Apple Pay and Google Pay. We do not accept Venmo, Zelle or Paypal. Our credit card processor is certified Level 1 Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard (PCI DSS) compliant. Any credit card information you enter during checkout is encrypted and not retained by our website once the payment is authorized. For this reason, we cannot make additional charges on your credit card above what you originally authorized. For example, if you wish to add items to your order, our system will generate a new invoice for you to authorize the difference in payment.   

All of our pillow covers are tested on the respective inserts before they are shipped out to you. Feather inserts are used for testing. Keep in mind that the posted measurements are taken at the interior midpoints with the cover flipped inside out. Measuring this way with the seams clearly visible is most accurate. Because your insert is put inside the cover, the interior dimensions control the fit.  

Do not measure the cover from the outside or along the edge from corner to corner which would give you an inaccurate (too small) reading because fabric curls into the seams and the cover corners are tapered. Without any filling to fully inflate the cover to push the tucked fabric all the way out of the seams, measuring the empty cover from the outside will give you an inaccurate measurement, usually 1/2" to 3/4" smaller than the true seam-to-seam size. Additionally, heavy upholstery fabrics may require that the cover be made an extra 1/2" to 1" smaller than the posted dimensions for the finished pillow to look full.

If the cover doesn't fit, there could be several causes:

1. Did you order the correct size? ► If not, please see this FAQ.
2. Did you measure your bare insert without a cover along a seam line? ► If not, please see this FAQ.
3. Are you using an insert with compressible fill (e.g. not memory foam, upholstery foam, latex or overfilled)? ► The average insert easily compresses at least 10% to 15%.  If yours does not, you may need a larger size cover. Please see this FAQ.
4. Are you using a pillow with a non-removable cover as your insert? ► If yes, please see this FAQ.
5. If you have an old cover that fits your insert well, flip it inside out and measure it following these directions. If there is a material difference between your measurements and the dimensions posted in our sizing diagram, you did not order the correct size.
6. Are you following the method described above as the easiest way to put in your insert? ► If not, please see this FAQ.

Some of our designs are special order. This means that the fabric is ordered from supplier as-needed to custom make the pillow covers just for you. 

After the fabric is cut to make your order, the fabric store will not take the material back for a refund. For this reason, returns or exchanges are not accepted and all sales are final. The only time it is possible to refund special order items is if you cancel before the fabric is cut, which would allow a return of the fabric to supplier. Please refer to the store policies for more detail.

Special order designs are clearly identified in the item description. Look for a sentence that says:

⚠**This is a special order fabric, fulfillment is subject to supplier availability, please allow extra time for production.**

Special order designs are also tagged "Special Order" in your shopping cart and order confirmation. Look for the phrase "Special Order" right underneath the size notation.

Some special order designs have minimum requirements, which will be stated in the item description. Those order minimums must be met before the fabric can be ordered. For example, if a special order design has a $100 order minimum, you will need to purchase at least $100 in that specific design for us to special order the fabric for you.

Because of the return/exchange limitations on special order items, please first order a fabric sample to verify colors and texture. Please also closely review the sizing guide to be sure you are ordering the correct size.

If you made a mistake in your order, please contact us immediately.

Order cancellations received before your order has been cut or fabric ordered: A full refund will be issued. 

Order cancellations received after fabric is ordered but not cut:  We will make best efforts to cancel with our supplier. However, if the fabric has already been shipped, the return costs (two-way shipping cost and restocking fees charged by supplier) will be deducted from your refund. 

Order cancellations received after your order has been cut but before shipment: For in-stock fabric patterns, you will receive a refund of the product total less a 30% restocking fee. For items made from special-order fabrics, no refunds will be issued. Shipping will be fully refunded.

Order cancellations after order is complete and shipped: Regular return/exchange policy applies.

A restocking fee is charged because your pillow cover was custom made-to-order specifically for you. It is cut in the exact size you ordered and made only when you order it. With over 1000 designs offered in 15 custom sizes and 1 or 2 side finishes (over 20,000 possible permutations), it is very difficult to find another buyer needing the identical pattern in the same size and finish. Returns have to be discounted to find a new home, and when that doesn't work, the seams are laboriously taken apart to salvage the fabric or the items are donated to charity at a loss. 

The restocking fee is a compromise to strike a balance between accepting no returns at all (a standard policy among custom pillow makers) or allowing some returns. The benefit of custom made-to-order is that you get a large range of sizes and patterns to choose from, but the flip side of that, are the return limitations. 

Keep in mind that some sizes and designs are final sale. Please refer to our return/exchange policy for a complete summary of what can and cannot be returned.Before placing your custom order, please do read through our Sizing Guide and order some fabric samples so that you can make the best choice among our many pattern and size options.  

Georgia sales tax applies to any order shipping to an address in the state of Georgia, USA. Sales tax is not collected on any order shipping outside the state of Georgia. If you are a business in Georgia purchasing our merchandise for resale, you may be eligible for sales tax exemption by completing the ST-5 form from the Georgia Department of Revenue.

All of Aloriam's pillow covers are made in our workshop located about an hour northeast of Atlanta, Georgia, USA. Each pillow cover is cut by hand individually and sewn with care. Seams are double stitched and cleanly finished. Unless specifically stated otherwise in the item description, all of our pillow covers are made from home decor drapery or upholstery fabrics that are dry clean or spot clean only. Many home decor fabrics have a stain repellent and soil resistant finish applied, and machine washing such items may harm that finish, cause shrinkage and/or fade the colors. Also, fabrics such as velvets and embroidered designs should always be dry cleaned to preserve their texture.  Generally, unless you have heavily soiled the pillow cover, it is not necessary to dry clean frequently, as this will wear out the fabric prematurely. Under normal use, the best care is to regularly vacuum the pillow cover to remove dust or pet hair, and spot clean or dry clean only when heavily soiled.  

Please purchase a fabric swatch if color matching is necessary or for non-returnable special order fabrics. I am also happy to take photos of several fabrics against each other so that you can compare the colors of different patterns before you make a purchase. Keep in mind that even the best photo is no substitute for a fabric sample, which will allow you to judge a fabric's texture and color with 100% accuracy under your room's lighting. To avoid disappointment, all customers are strongly encouraged to order a swatch before submitting an order.

It means that each side of a pillow cover may be cut from different parts of the fabric pattern, so that the portion of the pattern shown will not be identical. Typically home decor fabrics are 54 inches wide and has a vertical pattern repeat that is differs from pattern to pattern.

Generally speaking, on most prints (including pictorial, floral, paisley, ikat, striped, abstract/modern or designs with wavy elements), each pillow cover will show a unique section of the fabric. On checks, plaid, stripes or medallion prints, best efforts are made to center the pattern symmetrically along a vertical axis, but in multicolor designs multiple symmetrically-cut covers may still show different color sequencing. 

If you are buying more than one cover and absolutely require both an identical pattern arrangement and identical color sequence on each cover, please inquire prior to purchase to make sure the fabric inventory can accommodate. Identical matching in both cut and color requires more fabric to accomplish and additional charge may. 

The larger the fabric repeat, the more material is required to cherry pick a repeatable cut, and therefore the higher the cost. For example, 2 covers for a 16 inch insert can normally be cut from 1 yard of fabric. However, if a motif repeats itself only once every 30 inches, to obtain identical cuts on both (meaning 4 identical cuts for the front and backs), you will need 4 x 30 inches = 120 inches or 3 1/3 yards.

For symmetric geometric patterns, yes the pattern will be matched across the seams if you select the option of having the pattern fabric on both sides.

For abstract, floral, dots, ikat, pictorial and other types of patterns, the pattern will not be matched across the seams. Each side of the pillow cover will show different segments of the design.

For striped patterns, the stripe color sequence will be matched across the seam only for cotton prints or woven fabrics without a directional nap. For striped velvet fabrics (or other fabrics with a directional nap), the pattern will be placed with the nap flowing in the same direction on both sides. Please note that this will mean the color stripe sequence will not be identical across the seams.  The three photos below provide further explanation.

Photo 2 (above): The default placement is with the directional nap flowing the same way on both sides. Each side of the cover shows the color in the same sequence (A, B, C, D, E) from left to right. However, note that the color sequence cannot be matched across the seams.

Photo 3 (above): The color stripe sequence can be matched across the seam only if the nap is reversed on one side. This will mean one side of the pillow cover will feel smooth, while the other side will feel rougher because the pile is in the opposing direction. On some velvets, this might mean the smooth side will look lighter in color, while the rougher side will look slightly darker. Additionally, notice that in order for the stripe colors to match across the seam, side one of the cover shows the color sequence A, B, C, D, E, while side 2 shows the reverse sequence E, D, C, B, A.

On directional velvet stripe fabrics (for example, see the Marlow or Seurat designs), we follow the placement shown in Photo 2 by default, unless you explicitly instruct otherwise. If you have a preference, please make this clear at the time of purchase.

The easiest way to put the insert into the cover is to fold the insert in half like a taco while squeezing as much of the air out. While holding the folded insert with one hand, use your other hand to pull the cover over the insert. Then reach inside and match the corners of the insert to the corners of the cover. Match up the seams too so your insert isn't twisted. Zip up the cover while pushing the insert away from the zipper so that nothing gets caught in the zipper. Finally, punch the pillow a few times to even out and fluff up the filling. Enjoy!!

Due to time constraints, we are not able to respond to every individual design inquiry. Among the shop photos, we try to include some pattern combinations that can work together to give you possible arrangement ideas. If you truly have no clue where to start, fresh inspiration can be found in home decor magazines and many design professionals offer consultations that can be helpful. Hiring a designer who can coordinate your furniture with accessories and hardware, paint color, etc. to manifest a cohesive vision may be the best way forward.

Due to the custom made-to-order nature of our service, pricing is the same for all customers,  with bulk discounts available if you are ordering a large number in qualifying patterns. If you are interested in a large quantity for resale, some of our patterns can be discounted if your order exceeds a half bolt of fabric usage. Half bolts range from 15 to 30 yards; full bolts range from 30 to 60 yards. Some fabric designer brands (e.g. Kravet) do not give any price breaks, while other fabric manufacturers may give us a wholesale price if a half bolt/full bolt is purchased and those savings can be passed onto you. Any fabric patterns listed as limited availability cannot be obtained in greater quantity at wholesale pricing, so bulk discounts are not available for those items.   

If you are reselling our products, we can omit our label so that you can add your own brand's tag. Our reseller clients routinely offer our pillow covers at 2x to 3x our pricing on sites such as Chairish, One King's Lane, Houzz and in their own decorating businesses. Feel free to compare our prices. You will often find that our standard pricing is comparable to other companies' trade pricing, and usually much lower than if you purchase the fabric yourself and hire a workroom to do the labor.
